Description
Traditional Chinese Medicine Method
The Traditional Chinese Medicine method involves steaming the placenta prior to dehydration and encapsulation. In TCM theory, the process of labor and birth leaves a lot of open, empty space, which is considered very yin, or cold. Therefore one major way to promote healing during the postpartum period is to add yang energy via heat. Incorporating steam and warming herbs such as garlic, ginger, and lime into the remedy create a warming, tonifying, and nourishing medicine for the postpartum period. After the steaming process is complete, the umbilical cord and the membranes are removed, and then sliced into very thin strips. It is then placed into the dehydrator and ground into a fine powder. The placenta is finally packed into vegetarian gel capsules for you to enjoy for up to two years if stored properly.
This is highly recommended for families who deliver in the hospital, when there is a known or suspected infection during labor, or when there is meconium present in the amniotic fluid. The initial steaming of the placenta kills off anything foreign the placenta may have been exposed to and helps to thoroughly clean it.
Raw Method
The raw method of encapsulation is common among persons who choose to deliver at home, or at a birth center and believe that the initial steaming process of the Traditional Chinese Medicine method may destroy some beneficial properties of the placenta. In this method, the placenta is thoroughly rinsed, the umbilical cord and the membranes are removed, and then sliced into very thin strips. It is then placed into the dehydrator raw, and dried at the minimum temperature setting possible while still maintaining food safe preservation and handling. The placenta is finally packed into vegetarian gel capsules for you to enjoy for up to two years if stored properly.
